Very accurate, especially the top-left panel!
"So what do you do?" "I'm a mechanical engineer." "Ah, a mechanic! You must be really into cars!"

LOL, allllll theeeee timmmmeeee, and then you have to explain to them what we actually do. From now on I think I'm just going to say exactly what's on these pictures--I'm basically Iron Man.

It's even worse when I say "Oh yea, I'm Aerospace" and then I have to restrain myself from slapping someone when they reply "oh, well, what are you going to do when NASA shuts down?" *facepalm*

I'm screwed either way I go. Nuclear engineer... Oh you suck, you make bombs. (*idiots*) Fire engineer... Oh you're a fire man... Arghh. Whatever, yes, I'm a fire man that builds f'ing bombs. Damn that doesn't sound bad or anything. Chris Sent from my DROID RAZR using proboards

You don't know about Iron Man?! That thing in his chest is an arc reactor which basically fuels his body and his suit, but it's main and original purpose use is to power an electromagnet that keeps shrapnel from penetrating his heart. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Starks#Powers

Since I was still in training, I got to wear whatever I wanted. I was wearing a College of Engineering t-shirt when a customer asked me what I was studying in engineering. I replied "Aerospace" and they basically just shook their head and said, "NASA's shutting down, you know?" Sometimes you just want to grab them, shake them vigorously, and proceed to explain that Aerospace engineers don't just work at NASA. They work in a lot of industries. Sure NASA would be great, but I'm actually more interested in the defense aspects of the degree. #AeroE-Problems haha

Considering that I don't live very far from NASA-JSC at all and have been down there a couple times for meetings, it's even more frustrating. lol.
And yea, I agree with you wholeheartedly. NASA, SpaceX, Boeing, any of those would be awesome, but defense is what I'd really like. If I could get both space and defense, I might be in heaven...

When I told my high school classmates I was going to college for mechanical engineering, they asked me why I'd want to drive trains for a living.

When I told my high school classmates I was going to college for mechanical engineering, they asked me why I'd want to drive trains for a living. *facepalm* I thought engineering was about trains until my guidance counselor told me differently. My high school was more agriculture centered, so engineering was never really brought up to anyone as a potential career.
