Suggestion for a Portal and Chat

In several forums I have seen it has a home page called Portal and it shows the recently topics and post, notices and also others have a live chat for the comunity.
I think that it could be a good idea for good interface to home page of this forum and also integrate a chat for the comunity it can be cool.
