Hi there everyone! So I am working on a Wind Turbine Battery Charging System, and we are upgrading it to use embedded control boards to increase effinciency. While the control system works fine for wind turbines connected to the Grid, using an isolated DC system is presenting a problem. I would like to use some kind of low-loss dc-dc step down converter in order to supply 5v @ 1A max to our control circuitry; with the input coming from a 200V DC max bus that is being used to charge the battery. Does anyone know of, or can point me in the right direction to a dc-dc converter, with these specs? 5v - 15v DC output, 5v-220V DC input, 1A output source current (though this is flexible)
Otherwise, I am looking into other options such as using 2 converters to step down the voltage twice, so it's not such a big jump, and hopefully lower losses. Which I think I can find this option. Although I am trying to reduce cost as much as possible too, lol! Thanks for reading, and hopefully I can get this figured out soon!

That's some highly specialized stuff.. not going to be cheap ;D but then again - you don't wan't cheap components in a wind turbine.. that thing is too pricy to be damaged by cheap electronics ^^ Linear regulators are obviously no choice for you, as they would transform unused energy / voltage to heat. Switching regulators are available however.. maybe not for the big jump you're asking for, but in a two-step-system you could get there. Have a look at AIF-PFC series by Emerson Network Power ( www.emersonnetworkpower.com/en-US/Products/EmbeddedPower/AC-DC%20Power%20Supplies/EmbPowerPFC_ACDC/EmbPowerFullBrickPFCModules/Pages/EmbPowerAIF04ZPFC.aspx ) - maybe you could even request a sample for evaluation and play around with it. Don't be confused by it saying it is for AC-DC power.. it can handle both
