Ello' everyone! So... time travel.... would you use it? Sure it'd be nice to change the past/see the future etc. At the same time though, would we really remain the same person if we didn't experience all the hardships or good moments in our past, if we had witnessed the future and reshaped the present based on it? Knowing these risks, would you still want to travel through time? Hopefully I'm not the only one that thinks of random things in my free time

I think time travel from an observation point of view would be interesting. It would be nice to get some real answers about the past. But changing the past just has far too many unforseen repercussions to ever attempt it. Would going back and killing Hitler have been good for the world? That's hard to say we might have ended up with something worse in his place. Same story for every paralyzing figure through history. If you get rid of something, then something else will take it's place and the effects of that are impossible to foresee. Moral of the story, look but don't touch!

Just yesterday I had a similar conversation with my friend. Weird Some philosopher said (we couldn't remember which) that it is an illusion that we could have taken a different path in our lives, because then it would be some different person standing in this moment and reflecting its life choices. (something like that) I think that time travel would inevitably change you- if not your past than your future for sure. But then again wouldn't it be awesome to revisit some of your happiest moments or go to renaissance (my favorite) and have a word with Michelangelo! Or have a chat with Tolkien...(Now I'm getting all fan-girly) Long story short- I would use it only if it is assured that only thing I can effect is me

I would use it only if it is assured that only thing I can effect is me I'm petty sure though, that anything that would effect you, would have a potential cascade effect through everyone you know. The idea of time travel is interesting to me, but the dangers of changing the wrong thing would scare me too much. The whole, step on a fly and end the world scenario... Your post changed me, in a way But I agree with you, if there was a slightest possibility I could ruin sb life or change the course of history for worse I would not dare.

I believe that every path we take in our lives make us what we are. And I like what I am , so I wouldn't change anything in my time travel even if this "anything" was something that hurt me. But it would be nice to see some things of the past and live in a different age

I dont like having the idea that I can change the past and be careless in what i am doing(because anyways I can change it with time travelling)..

Wow! This actually got some responses I agree with all of you that observing would be good, but only if you didn't have an impact on the time line. As much as I would love to see how things would turn out if I made a different decision... I wouldn't be the same person i am today if I hadn't made all the decisions I have so far. Have any of you ever watched Fringe? The fact that you responded to this thread means you'd probably love it haha

The universes are all about making different choices between the two universes though! There is so time travelling... but I don't want to ruin it The alternate universe doesn't even come in to play until the second season really. First season is just all kins of crazy strange scientific phenomena, spontaneous combustion all that stuff

Other than alternate timestreams, paradoxes can get a little messy.

I agree that the repercussions of time travel seem too dangerous to actually do it, observation would be interesting though.
